Summary:
Though 13 experiments, children will learn the basics of simple machines, such as levers and pulleys, and how they can make their lives easier. The experiments could easily be incorporated into a classroom curriculum, or be used to entertain children at home. Children will be drawn to the vibrant, full-color photographs.

Response and Reaction:
There is very little warning of using adult supervision in this book, but for the target age group it seems that it would be highly recommended. Many of the experiments are messy and some could easily turn dangerous (lifting a child up using a lever made of a broom and kitchen table, rolling eggs down a ramp, etc). The experiments are simple enough that most households will have the supplies needed on hand. This book provides good introduction to simple machines when used with supervision.
